Hosting
What do we mean by hosting? We mean where your website is stored, for example, it may be on an in-house server or more likely is stored within a large network of servers made available by numerous specialist hosting companies that you pay a yearly fee to.
For us this is another key part to the whole IT Support cycle and one that often gets confused and quite frankly overcharged.
We often hear of companies paying hundreds of pounds a year for the hosting of their website which includes a huge amount of storage space and bandwidth that they'll never use. Quite often a much smaller and simpler package at a fraction of the cost would do exactly the same job.
There are so many hosting options out there these days it can be confusing on which to choose, for example, should you have Windows or Linux hosting? How much storage space will your website need? What's the likely amount of traffic you'll receive? Do you need a database? - the list goes on!
As the name suggests we like to put it as simply as we can, so we recommend a company we have used for many years, called DataFlame. They are UK based, with their own servers and offer many options when it comes to web hosting to cover the vast majority of our clients needs.
We can provide hosting through our own account with DataFlame, you are of course free to sign up to them (or anyone you choose) yourselves but as we host many sites already we gain an additional discount which is passed onto you and you can be safe in the knowledge we're managing the hosting so its one less thing for you to worry about.
If you think you're being overcharged with your current hosting contact us for a no obligation assessment. We'll need to know a few key facts, such as:
- The size of your site (in Megabytes)
- Does it use a database (for a forum, photo gallery or content management system)
- How many hits do you receive a month (bandwidth)
If you can't find this information we'll do our best to help you find it, if your current hosts can't help then its definitely time for a change!
